The word “ sari-sari “ store in the Filipino language means “diverse mom and pop shop”.  These private stalls sell the most brightly colored snacks, from gums and soda pops to gossip magazines.  The colors on the storefront of this particular stall are especially meaningful because it serves a cemetery squatter community, where homeless families invade private cemeteries in Cebu Philippines looking for solidly built shelter.  Here the bright colors become a social commentary on the dark reality of the plight of the homeless, wherein the dead live in better conditions than the living.
