Maltese Luzzu is an old and very small phoenician boat for travelling, transport between villages and a fishing boat. Usually it is painted with very bright colours and decorated with pear eyes referred to as the Eye of Horus or of Osiris and said to protect the fishermen while at sea. Today the local fishermen use it for small loads of fish.It is also a very trendy tourist and sightseeing transtour.

concept

I choose this object the Maltese Luzzy, to represent an open sea vessel as a symbolic bridge between sea and land; between cultures and centuries; between continents and social differences as a bizarre tourist attraction in contrast to it as a local tool for fishing, provision and form of shelter.

My work is made on three large separate panels, each in size 1 x 3 meters.Beads, robes, different materials are glued, cut and adjusted in each individual frame and when assembled all together, they represent a contemporary interpretation of the bright and colourful Maltese Luzzu
