Mixed media on canvas, 120×120cm, 2019

I desire to grow closer to the essence of painting, but this desire does not focus on form and meaning. My work removes the outermost layer of a painting to draw out the innateness contained behind the veneer. Behind the surface lies a hidden structure of lines and angles running in every direction and revealing the process.

I aim to evoke creativity through indeterminacy. My work rejects traditional methodologies and representation. Is the reproduction of static objects and images truly meaningful? Does it communicate with the viewer? My paintings abandon commonly used perspective, composition, and traditional coloring techniques. Instead, each stage of my process can be seen in the work’s final form. These overlapping processes create an incompleteness that replaces a static or complete image. The process itself becomes the finished form.
