Alejandra Aristizabal Colombia Installation

I believe in art with a purpose. Environmental purpose, social purpose, and aesthetic purpose.

In the world’s hectic climatic agenda and social disruption, we need to activate a transition towards a sustainable global future, installing cooperation and shifting from unconscious consumerism to conscious decisions, as local actions have global consequences.

I want to promote natural resources and materials, like Fique, - Furcraea andina - a species native of south american andean region, and one of the Colombian national fibers, main symbol of my artistic work. By fostering legal crop plantation and sustainable farming I wish to “turn over the new leaf”, by supporting ethical practices and spotlighting the beauty of these natural resources.

The objective of this piece is to elevate ancestral traditions, give voice to crafters and natives. Empower small producers by highlighting their product and showing their craft to the world and enhance fair pay and ethical labor conditions, to ensure that producers can cover their average costs of sustainable production.
