In Buddhist cosmology, a Hungry Ghost is one of the lives one can be reborn into; arguably the worst. The Hungry Ghost wanders the earth, unable to satisfy their overwhelming desires. This has been a recurring image for but in light of current American politics it has taken on new meaning for me. Right wing politicians are ideologically driven and therefore uninterested in facts. The toad represents reality.
